Literacy week celebrations in KSCSI -Main Campus

December 15, 2017

“A Celebration of Arts and Culture” is the pivotal theme for this year’s Literacy Week 2017. Its primary objective is to encourage students to love reading as it develops one’s creativity and imagination. Also, it enhances knowledge and promotes understanding of oneself and the others.

As a response to this call, KSCSI held its Literacy Week Celebration last December 4-14, 2017. The committee provided various activities that encourage students to appreciate reading, hone other macro-skills and foster the use of English language. Some activities were Book Hunter Game where students need to find the answer from the library which aims to develop reading habits; Spelling Bee which adds to the vocabulary of students and ability to use it; Movie Theater where students watch different movies such as Bambi for preschool and primary, The Gifted for Intermediate, and Into the Woods for Junior High School. The objective is for the students to value and critically analyze movies in order to understand its purpose; Amazing Race for JHS students where they race to finish tasks in connection to widening their vocabulary, comprehending reading materials, and practicing listening, writing, and speaking skills; and Door Decorating Contest where students and teachers will decorate their door according to their Speaking Contest pieces.

The Literacy week was concluded through a Speaking Contest where students have to perform onstage in front of a crowd. The Preschool and Primary Departments had their Poem Recitation and Storytelling held last December 14, 2017. On the other hand, the Intermediate Department had their Christmas presentations and G6 Speech Choir; while the Junior High School Department had their Reader’s Theater last December 8, 2017.

Truly, reading, writing, listening, and speaking are not just only for information but could also serve as a smart platform of entertainment not only to children but adult alike. Overall, Literacy week made students value Language and Literature as part of their daily lives.
